Big Ten Invitational — Five Locked at 370, Eight Races to Decide It
Saturday's racing is done and we have a five-way tie at the top on 370 points. Julia, Fraser Innes, Glucky7s, Goose, and AllMarkRich have navigated 16 flights on matching picks all weekend — Washington, Stanford, California, Rutgers, USC, Ohio State. Every single Saturday call, identical across all five.
Sunday morning is where it finally breaks apart. Eight races remain, and every single one contains at least one divergence in the top five's picks. Here's the map of the battle.
Where the pack splits
The 4-vs-1 swings — AllMarkRich's lonely road
Flights 1 and 3 (both 1V4 and 1V8) put AllMarkRich on his own against the other four.
- Flight 1 — Washington vs Stanford: Julia, Fraser, Glucky7s, Goose all on Stanford; AllMarkRich alone on Washington. The crowd's slight favourite is Washington (~44% 1V4, ~38% 1V8).
- Flight 3 — UCLA vs USC: Same four on UCLA; AllMarkRich alone on USC. UCLA is the clear crowd favourite (~46% 1V4, 50% 1V8).
Four races, 25 points each, AllMarkRich playing contrarian in all of them. If even half break his way, he runs away with it. If none do, he's tumbling off the shared lead.
The 3-vs-2 — Ohio State vs Indiana
Flight 2 (1V4 and 1V8): Julia, Fraser and Glucky7s on Ohio State; Goose and AllMarkRich on Indiana. Ohio State is the picks' favourite (36/38%) but Flight 2 is a five-crew scramble with no pick above 38% — a genuine upset zone.
Flight 4 — chaos
This is the race where the five finally all have different skin.
- 1V4 Flight 4: Julia, Glucky7s, Goose, AllMarkRich on Iowa. Fraser Innes alone on Wisconsin. Wisconsin is the marginal crowd favourite (~38%).
- 1V8 Flight 4 — three-way split: Julia + Goose on San Diego. Fraser on Wisconsin. Glucky7s + AllMarkRich on Iowa. Wisconsin 39%, San Diego 25%, Iowa 23%.
What each contender needs
- Julia & Glucky7s — identical path through seven of the eight races. Separate only in 1V8 Flight 4, where Julia's on San Diego and Glucky7s is on Iowa. One of those two is the most likely winner if the chalk holds.
- Fraser Innes — follows the pack through Flights 1–3, then needs Wisconsin to pull off both Flight 4 races. The crowd thinks Wisconsin is ever-so-slightly favoured in both. If they're right, Fraser goes solo at the top.
- Goose — matches Julia through Flights 1 and 3, diverges on Flight 2 (needs Indiana) and 1V8 F4 (needs San Diego with Julia). Goose's unique path is Indiana in Flight 2 — if that lands, the two Ohio State-backers fall behind.
- AllMarkRich — the boldest line on the card. Five divergent picks against the pack. Washington, Indiana, USC, Iowa, Iowa. This is all-or-nothing — he's either cup winner or mid-table finish, very little in between.
The races that actually decide this
Flights 1 and 3 carry the heaviest weight — four races, one player, 100 points of possible spread between AllMarkRich and the other four. Those alone could decide the trophy before Flight 4 even starts.
But the 1V8 Flight 4 is the race where the whole group finally fractures in three directions. It's the one flight all weekend where four different crews could win and four different players would benefit. If the cup is still close by then, that's the flight that settles it.
Strap in. Eight races, five players on 370, and programs from Stanford to Washington, Ohio State to Indiana, UCLA to USC, San Diego to Wisconsin to Iowa — all with a say in which of them lifts the Big Ten Invitational title. Racing live on B1G+.
